A breakdown of the cost of wisdom tooth removal
Perhaps the one thing that worries people more than the pain that they imagine a wisdom tooth extraction will cause them is the potential pain that it will cost their wallet. Popular public opinion may be that there is no such thing as a cheap wisdom tooth removal, and in extreme cases the stress of the potential cost can cause people to put off going to the dentist entirely… which in the longer term can cause much greater damage and even more expensive dentist bills.
At Parramatta Dental Studio we understand the concern that you might have for the cost of a wisdom tooth extractionand will aim to be as open and transparent as possible, so you’re not hit with any surprise bills.
What does a wisdom tooth removal cost?
The cost of wisdom tooth removals can be surprisingly varied depending on the time and technique involved in the procedure and the degree of impaction. Some teeth are simple extractions and others are more complicated such as severely impacted teeth, decaying roots or badly broken teeth. Also if the Parramatta Dental Studio dentists have referred you to an oral surgeon or oral maxillofacial surgeon for the removal of your wisdom teeth under general anaesthetic then there will be separate fees related to that which will be discussed by the clinician in charge of the surgery.
A wisdom tooth extraction can vary from between $180 to $600 per tooth. This is a large range because as mentioned every case is different and even different teeth in the same person will also degree of difficulty or approach to the removal of their wisdom tooth. If multiple teeth need to be extracted, we must plan your appointments to ensure the speediest recovery and combine that with the least out of pocket costs where possible.
That’s a pretty big variation! How do I budget for it?
Before having the wisdom tooth or teeth removed, the dentists at Parramatta Dental Studio will examine your teeth and take an X-ray of your mouth and that will allow us to assess whether your wisdom tooth extraction will be a surgical procedure or a more straight forward extraction. With that information, we will be able to provide you with a quote for the full procedure. Furthermore, at Parradental Studio, we can process the quote through our HICAPs terminal, meaning that if you have private health insurance, the quote will also let you know of your expected out of pocket costs prior to us arranging an appointment for the wisdom tooth removal.
It’s still beyond what I can afford today! What can I do?
Remember, if a wisdom tooth needs to be extracted, but isn’t, then it can start to cause greater damage to the mouth and surrounding teeth and gums, ultimately costing even more to repair. At Parradental Studios we would only ever recommend the extraction of the tooth if we felt it was necessary for the health of the mouth and your overall health.
